Jiro Yoshihara
Jiro Yoshihara (January 1, 1905 – February 19, 1972) was a Japanese painter. He worked in surrealist and abstract painting styles before turning to the repeated depiction of circles. Leaving the canvas unpainted, while painting the background black made this white circle. When he was asked about the circles, he said he could not manage to paint even one circle with satisfaction.

He repeated this technique however he created different shapes, such as a simple line, and a square. He also experimented with different colours; for example, he did a series of red circles and black backgrounds. I like this series of images, as I like how each shape is not perfect. I like the line is not straight, and how it looks as if the paint has dripped on one side. I also like how the square does not have straight equal lines.

I think by not having straight lines, makes the shape more individual and makes the viewer think about what the actual definition of perfect is. If I were to interpret his work, then I would create a photo shoot by free drawing a shape onto different materials and then photograph it using different angels, shutter speeds, and aperture settings.
